I do love shards.
Just bought- for research- a collection of Cizhou ware broken pots from the Northern Song Dynasty in China- roughly 11th century. They are beautiful fragments- brushwork of such vigour that you can sense the choreography of a hand across a curved surface, lines incised with such freedom that they seem to continue into the air
