November 26th 1987, Peter Hujar passed away from AIDS. His close friend David Wojnarowicz sat at his bedside during his last moments. Throughout David’s memoir, “Close to the Knives”, he wrote about Peter’s illness and his reaction to witnessing the end of one of his dearest friends. David had already seen many of his friends fall victim to AIDS but Peter’s death was the catalyst for nightmares, isolation, and overflowing anger.
